Standing Up to Donald Trump's Attacks on Our Schools
Carlos believes every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported at school.
Right now, the Trump Administration is targeting public schools across the country, including Chicago Public Schools, in an effort to roll back protections for LGBTQ+ students and undermine the inclusive values that make our schools stronger. These politically motivated attacks are designed to pressure schools into turning back the clock on progress and creating fear among students, educators, and families.
As a member of the Chicago Board of Education, Carlos will continue standing up for LGBTQ+ students, immigrant students, and every young person who deserves to feel seen, valued, and protected in their school community. He will fight to ensure Chicago Public Schools remain welcoming environments where every child can thrive regardless of who they are, where they come from, or whom they love.
Chicago's values are not up for negotiation, and neither is every student's right to a safe and supportive education.
Supporting Students and Families
Schools should be more than places where students learn. They should serve as community hubs that connect families to the resources they need. Carlos supports expanding community schools that provide wraparound services, mental health support, healthcare resources, after-school programming, and family assistance so students can thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Families and taxpayers deserve confidence that resources are reaching classrooms and students. Carlos supports transparent decision-making, responsible budgeting, and accountability at every level of Chicago Public Schools to ensure every dollar is spent wisely and effectively.

Carlos believes the best decisions come from listening to the people closest to our schools and ensuring that communities across Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa, Belmont Cragin, West Town, and the surrounding neighborhoods have a voice in shaping the future of Chicago Public Schools.
Protecting Our Immigrant Neighbors
As the son of a Mexican immigrant and a foster parent who cared for undocumented children during the migrant crisis, Carlos understands the challenges many immigrant families face.
At a time when immigrant communities are under attack, Carlos believes Chicago Public Schools must remain a safe, welcoming place for every student. No child should have to live in fear because of their family's immigration status. Carlos will continue standing up for immigrant families, supporting bilingual education, connecting families with resources, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
